A Message from the director
Dear friends,
It has been a privilege and honor to serve as the ACC’s steward for these many years. You may ask, where did the time go? It went to countless meaningful interactions with students who keep the center alive through their smart ideas and admirable work ethic. Their involvement and dedication emulate those who founded the center 25 years ago. In keeping with that legacy, the student’s commitment has resulted in where the center is now.
25 years ago, our ACC home, was the first Asian American student-based center in the Midwest. Since its founding and determined to continue the vision of the students and alumni, the center worked hard to help established initiatives including the Asian Alumni Association, Asian Pacific American Faculty and Staff Council, Asian American Studies Program, and the recent initiative, the Asian Pacific American Thematic Community in Teter. There have been many actors in building the AAPI community at IU and for them we celebrate!
The 25th anniversary weekend celebration on October 27-29, 2023 is an opportunity to look forward and back. It is a time to continue to honor and work for the ideals that formed the foundation of the ACC: caring and advocating for the students. It is also a testament to IU’s promise to truly support the students and acknowledge the values of inclusion. As a founding director, I’ve seen how the IU community adapts in response to changes in IU leadership, demographics, political and economic landscape, and the age of social media. Some of those changes have had an impact on the ACC, but the one thing that is constant for us is our mission. For 25 years, we have striven to remain connected to the students and the larger community at IU.
As we celebrate our 25th year of opening our doors at IU, let’s remember those who built, advocated, and supported the center throughout the years.
On behalf of the ACC team, I would like to express our deep gratitude to everyone who has pledged their support to our first-ever crowdfunding anniversary campaign of raising $25,000 symbolic of 25 years. As of this writing, we’re 80 percent close to reaching our goal. Let’s bring it to the finish line! Thank you for your gift and thank you for showing your love!
