Volunteering

Volunteer Opportunities

A lot of the events and services we provide at the ACC wouldn't be possible without our amazing and generous volunteers. Volunteering is a great way to connect with the IU and Bloomington communities. It's also a good opportunity to build your resume.

Get involved at the ACC during your free time. We are flexible so you can fit the ACC into your schedule. If you are interested, fill out this form or email acc@indiana.edu for more information.

Special Events

The ACC is looking for volunteers for two special projects. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please email acc@indiana.edu for more information.

  • HearAbouts: Midwest Asian American Radio; Join the Hearabouts team! Do you listen to AAPI musicians? Do you want to interview famous AAPIs visiting Bloomington? Do you want experience editing content? Hearabouts is run by volunteers, so if you have stories that can be told on the air or would like to lend your experience with technology and sound editing, we would love to welcome you to the team! Email acc@indiana.edu if you are interested.
  • Rice Paper Newsletter: Rice Paper is an 8-page newsletter produced each semester. You can contribute by writing and reporting, editing, and designing.

For more volunteer opportunities, get involved with any of the following.

Asian Language Learning Program

Are you fluent in speaking and/or writing in an Asian language? Would you like to share your skills and volunTeach a one-hour language class every week for 8 weeks in the fall or spring semester? We are looking for volunteers to teach an informal language class/es in Mandarin, Korean, Japanese, Hindi, Tagalog, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and more.

English Tutoring/Peer Support Service

The Asian Culture Center is offering a FREE English tutoring and mentoring service to IU students led by peer mentors. We are seeking student peer mentors who will provide advice, support, attention, and kindness to students who would like some guidance with cultural adjustment, campus life, and schoolwork. These one-on-one meetings may also be an opportunity for learners to practice conversational English and meet new friends. In addition to providing a service to the community, peer counselors will gain invaluable teaching experience and communication skills.

Weekly Asian Games

If you know how to play mahjong or go, you can volunteer to teach them. Alternatively, if there is another Asian game you know, we would love to have you teach it, too!

Special assistance at cultural events

We could always use extra hands at the ACC, particularly at special events. If you enjoy making crafts, performing at cultural events, or would like to help out in event set up or clean up, feel free to volunteer!

Donate to the ACC

You can also help by donating to the Asian Culture Center. Your contribution will support the mission of the Asian Culture Center as a place to build friendships, to learn, and to grow together.
